Joe Kauffman is President and Chief Financial Officer of Deel, the payroll and HR platform for global teams. He brings decades of experience operating at the intersection of finance, regulation, and technology, with a career defined by scaling high-growth companies into durable, multi-billion-dollar businesses. Prior to joining Deel, Joe served as CEO, President, and CFO of Credit Karma. During his tenure, he helped scale the company from just over $100M in revenue to $2.5B, while expanding operating margins to 37 percent and achieving “Rule of 70” performance. He led the company’s international expansion and built the financial and operational discipline required to grow at scale. Earlier in his career, Joe held CFO and corporate development roles at two NYSE-listed companies. He led TAL Education through its IPO as CFO and managed investor relations for New Oriental Education during its 2006 public offering. These roles enabled him to lead with the precision of a CFO paired with the instinct of a founder, developing deep expertise in managing disciplined, high-growth businesses within the public markets. Joe’s perspective is deeply global. He spent more than 15 years living and working in China, including leadership roles at The Coca-Cola Company, and is fluent in Mandarin. In addition to his operating roles, Joe is an active early-stage investor in fintech, edtech, and AI, and serves on several non-profit boards. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree from Williams College.
